Myth Busters (FAQ)
“I want to get toned.”
Any one who walks upright is already “toned.” Believe it or not, your muscles are rock hard. However, for so many people it appears as though there is little definition because the muscle is hidden by a layer of fat that lies between the muscle and skin which is subcutaneous. You can be as lean as you want to be. Royal Body teaches modern science not gym science.
“As a woman, I don’t use any weights because I build muscle fast.”
We recognize that it is more difficult for women to burn fat, because they have less muscle mass than men do, anyone who lifts heavy weights or more than is normal for them, will stimulate muscle hypertrophy (Muscle Growth) . By sharing our education, knowledge and expertise with our clients, Royal Body Nutrition has debunked the myth that women who incorporate resistance training will start to resemble weight lifters.
“I’ve been told that the only way to lose weight is to get rid of carbohydrates. Is that true?”
If someone tells you that in order to lose weight, you have to exclude carbohydrates from your diet a warning bell should immediately go off. Eliminating carbohydrates from your diet will cause the body to convert muscle into carbohydrates pushing/propelling your body into a state of (ketosis). Remember: weight is muscle. The goal is to keep lean muscle and lose body fat. The correct balance of carbohydrates is essential in maintaining cognitive thought processes. Fat doesn't make you fat, carbs doesn't make you fat, and protein doesn't make you fat. What makes people fat is . . . too many calories and lack of activities.
“I want to lose weight from my hips and thighs.”
Spot reducing is a fallacy! If losing fat in a specific area was possible, that means people who chew gum. They would have a skinny face, I have never seen a fat person with a skinny face. You cannot lose body fat in any one specific area of the body by targeting specific exercise. Your set point was predetermined at birth. Royal Body will teach you to alter your set point and lose body fat from head-to-toe. You will be armed with the knowledge and power to support that change for the rest of your life.
“I’ve been told that if I want to lose weight, I shouldn’t eat after 8 p.m. Is that true?”
There are many myths that persist despite evidence to the contrary and this is one of them. The body doesn’t shut down at 8 p.m. It continues to process all its vital functions while burning calories 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as long as your eating below your maintenance level you can eat til the very last minute when you go to sleep. Royal Body will show you how to sustain your body’s need for nutrients by “grazing” throughout the day by eating smaller healthier meals more often.
“I’ve been on the diet-roller coaster for years. I’ve tried everything to lose weight and have had limited short term success.”
When most people think of changing their body image, diet and exercise are often the primary elements of focus. However, common sense and safety is often ignored. The dieter often falls into the syndrome of skipping meals or not eating altogether. Never forget that your body needs a certain amount of calories a day to survive. This is called your maintenance level. If enough calories aren’t consumed to sustain the body, the body resorts to eating muscle (ketosis) because muscle has calories and nutrients available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Remember, muscle needs calories to survive.
With a low fat diet, proper weight training along with a proper cardio program you should be able to attain your goals. Providing that you have personal assistance to help guide you.
